1st, 2nd and 3rd class went to the Chocolate Garden of Ireland on their school tour. They learned about chocolate, tasted some samples, made their own chocolate trains, and had a great day!
The whole school was invited to the World Premiere of a short film, “A Typical 80s Movie”, made by the 6th class girls. The girls had written the script, organised the cast, filming locations, costumes, make-up and props, had filmed it and then Clarice edited it into the finished product. It took an enormous amount of work at all stages of the process, and was very well received by the audience at its first showing. We hope you enjoy it too!
April 2026
The 6th girls spent a day in SETU Arena at the Waterford Girls in Sport tournament. Part of the day was a workshop led by Ornaith, a former Irish international in squash and athletics. She spoke about the challenges women and girls face in sport, about ways to overcome those challenges, and also about the importance and value of continuing with sport through adolescence and adulthood. There was also a Q and A session with three players from Waterford FC Women’s team and a player from Waterford Wildcats. After that the girls played in an extremely fast-paced basketball blitz where they scored baskets beyond counting, and then they played in an equally fast-paced soccer blitz. They were a credit to our school, and we hope that every single one of them will keep playing sport through second-level school and beyond.
March 2026
We were very proud and excited to welcome past pupil Adam Sweeney back to school at the end of March to talk about his upcoming expedition. Adam is a member of an Irish team who are about to climb Mount Everest, and he hopes to be the youngest Irish person ever to reach the summit. Adam brought in some pieces of his kit to show the children – the ice pick wasn’t passed around, but the enormous mitten and boot were! He talked to the children about his training regime, and about his previous climbs, and he had to answer a lot of questions, and then sign autographs. The hall was decorated with art depicting Mt Everest, created by some of the pupils. All of us in CCNS wish Adam and his team mates the very best in their expedition, and we look forward to hearing about his adventures afterwards.
We held a bake sale in school on Daffodil Day this year. 6th class were kept busy all day setting up, then running the sale, and clearing up afterwards. Everything in school seemed yellow – the daffodils, the sunshine, and even some of the buns! We also got some gorgeous pictures of the children, class by class, enjoying the weather. Sincere thanks to everyone who baked, set up, sold, bought, supervised or cleared away. We raised over €400 in aid of cancer research.
It felt like our whole school went green for Saint Patrick’s Day! ☘️

Diversity and inclusion are very important to us in Christ Church NS – everyone is welcome in our school, and we celebrate what we have in common, not what sets us apart. We are so proud of the entries the children created for the “Unity in Diversity” art competition – please look at the wealth of talent on display in the video below!

We said goodbye to Mrs Hemmingway on the last day of term before the Christmas holidays. We wish her many years of health and happiness in her retirement. We surprised her with a flash mob in Assembly!
October 2025
5th and 6th class in Room 1 worked on decorating masks in their art lessons with Ms Walsh this month, taking their inspiration from traditional Venetian masks worn at Carnival. Three of the masks were chosen as prize winners, but just look at the variety of colours, patterns and shapes on view below – they are all stunning.
The children in 1st and 2nd class tested their bravery before Hallowe’en by going to Dave’s Jungle in Ardkeen Library, where they got to see and hold a variety of creatures. Who was brave enough to hold a tarantula? Or have a giant snake around their shoulders? It turned out to be a test of courage for some of the staff too! Take a look at the video and see who’s not afraid of creepy crawlies.
We were delighted to welcome the Amazing Journey crew to school again this year. The Amazing Journey is organised by Baptist Youth (Ireland), and travels to schools all over the country. A team of volunteers from Waterford Baptist Church talked to the children about what life was like in biblical times, and the children got to dress up in clothing typical of the time and place. A highlight was tasting food from the region and the time of Jesus.
Through the PTA, we held our first International Evening on Friday 10th October. It was an evening of fun, friendship and food from many lands and cultures. October is also Black History Month in Ireland, so it was a good time to celebrate the diversity in our school community. There were delicious treats from all over the world on offer, beautiful clothes on display, and the hall was decked out in flags and posters with international greetings made by some of the senior children. The evening was a wonderful success, and we would like to thank all those who came on the night, everyone who helped, and especially those who provided such tasty treats for all to sample.

Another year in Christ Church NS begins, and our Infants are settling in well to life in primary school. They have been getting to grips with jigsaws, painting, and playing in the yard.
